Al-Qaida Leader in Pakistan – Abu Hafs al-Shehri

An unnamed U.S. intelligence official has confirmed the death of a Saudi Al-Qaida operative believed to be the leader of the terrorist network in Pakistan. Saudi national Osama Hamoud al-Shehri known as „Abu Hafs al-Shehri“ has been killed in a U.S. drone attack in North Waziristan last Sunday.

The 29year old Al-Qaida leader Al-Shehri was about to replace Atiyyatullah al-Libi, the Libyan terrorist who himself was reportedly killed in a U.S. drone strike in the Pakistani tribal areas a few weeks ago.

According to Interpol documents Al-Shehri was born September 17 1981 in Saudi-Arabia. His name appeared on the Saudi most-wanted list of Al-Qaida terrorists. Saudi-Arabian media is reporting Al-Shehri moved to Syria in 2002 and served as an Al-Qaida facilitator who was in contact with Al-Qaida´s central leadership in Afghanistan-Pakistan.

Sources in Pakistan told the media, it is believed Al-Shehri at one point served as a bodyguard to Osama Bin Laden and was therefore widely trusted within Al-Qaida. In Waziristan Abu Hafs al-Shehri was in close contact with the Pakistani „Tehrik e-Taliban“ and coordinated joint operations by the two groups.
