The „Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan“ (IMU) presents a chilling list celebrating 87 „martyrs“ of the organization killed in 2011 – amongst them Afghans, Pakistanis, Tajiks, Uzbeks and a German.
Most of the IMU fighters – 64 militants – were killed during fighting and suicide attacks in Afghanistan, mostly in the northern region of the country.
Some of the most famous Jihadi militants serving in the ranks of the IMU were killed this year: Commander Abbas Mansour from Kyrgyzstan, the military commander of IMU, Uzbek „Ukosha“ from Tashkent who served as a propaganda chief of IMU, and a German Islamist from the city of Essen named Abdullah H. aka „Miqdaad“.
The new martyr list reveals the pressure under which IMU is operating. Many of their fighters are prime targets of NATO assassination campaigns and are also under the heavy missile barrage of the CIA drones in the Afghan-Pakistan border region.
