„O Lions Of Sham“ – Zawahiri´s Message To Syrians

by Florian Flade

„Bloodshed“ is the daily news coming out of Syria these days. While the protest against the regime of President Assad have turned into a full grown war with a militant insurgency fighting the dictator in Damascus, Al-Qaida sees its chance for establishing a base in the country and calls for Syrians and other Arabs to join the fight against Assad.

The terrorist network has just released a new video message by its Amir Dr.Ayman az-Zawahiri, titled „Go Forward, O Lions Of Sham!“.

„Do not rely on the West or America or the Arab governments and Turkey“ Zawahiri says in the new video tape, „You know what they are planning against you!“

„People of Syria do not depend on the Arab League the corrupt governments which are supporting it, the Al-Qaida leader continues, „If we want freedom we must be liberated from this regime. If we want justice we must take revenge on this regime.“

Zawahiri continues saying Mujahidin from Turkey, Iraq and other places should join the Syrian resistance in their fight against the ruling regime.

It is the Al-Qaida leader´s second message to the Syrian people. The first one was released by the Al-Qaida media wing „As-Sahab“ in July 2011. In that video tape Zawahiri claimed US-President Obama was planning on replacing Assad with another Pro-American ruler in Damascus.

„You are an example, explaining lessons to your Arab and Muslim nation in sacrifice, steadfastness and the struggle against oppression“, Zawahri said in the July 2011 tape to the Syrian people, „How could you not? You are the sons of the Levant, the front for Jihad and martyrdom.“

Al-Qaida in Iraq Releases „Spring Of Al-Anbar“

U.S. soldiers stationed in Iraq used to call the Al-Anbar Province the „Wild West“ of the country. A desert region reaching from central Iraq all the way to the Syrian, Jordanian and the Saudi-Arabian border, ruled by local Sunni tribes, huge family clans with ties to the surrounding countries. After the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003 Al-Anbar became a hotspot of the insurgency. Various local groups, armed militias as well as foreign fighters allied to Al-Qaida were present in Al-Anbar, turning the province in one of the most dangerous places for U.S. troops and their Iraqi allies.

A new propaganda video released by „Al-Furqaan“, the media wing of the „Islamic State of Iraq“ (ISI) (which is de facto Al-Qaida) sets focus on Al-Anbar and the Jihadi activities there. Titled „The Spring of Al-Anbar“, the new video shows Al-Qaida fighters training in the Iraqi desert, carrying out attacks on convoys and barracks U.S. and Iraqi troops and patrolling the streets of the Al-Anbar towns and villages.

Among other militants the video features a high-ranking Al-Qaida commander named „Sheikh Abu Muhammad al-Adnani“ and two suicide bombers named „Abu Usama al-Ansari“ and „Abu Jafar al-Ansari“.

Al-Qaida´s message is clear: the Mujahidin of the organization are still present in the province, still fighting Jihad and still causing harm to coalition forces and the Iraqi troops as well as the Sunni militias who have formed the so-called „Awakening Council“ (basically U.S. paid militias to fight Al-Qaida).

Iran Denies Presence Of High-Level Al-Qaida Facilitator

by Florian Flade

Izzaddin Abdel Aziz Khalil from the Syrian town of Al-Qamishli is now international terrorist celebrity. The 29 year-old Syrian has been added to the U.S. Most Wanted List of terrorists. A $ 10 Million reward is offered for information leading to his killing or arrest.

Khalil who is known as „Yassin al-Suri“ is labeled as a senior Al-Qaida facilitator based in Iran. According to U.S. authorities Al-Suri is moving terrorist recruits across the Middle East into Iran and then to Pakistan and Afghanistan. His activities are known to Iranian authorities, the U.S. claims.

„Iranian authorities maintain a relationship with al-Suri and have permitted him to operate within Iran´s borders since 2005“ – the U.S. Ministry of Justice states – „Al-Suri funnels significant funds via Iran for onward passage to al-Qaida´s leadership in Afghanistan and Iraq“.

Yassin al-Suri was also responsible for arranging a deal with Iran´s regime for the release of imprisones Al-Qaida members (among them Egyptian Saif al-Adel and Kuwaiti Sulaiman Abu Ghaith) from Iranian prisons. Allegedly Iranian officials handed the prisoners to Al-Suri who then facilitated their travel to Pakistan.

Meanwhile Iran has denied having any affiliation with the Al-Qaida opertive Yassin al-Suri. „These amateurish scenarios by the U.S. government on the presence of an Al-Qaida member in Iran are totally baseless“, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said.
