Toulouse Killer Allies Himself With Al-Qaida

In the past hours some information that had emerged this morning has been corrected

  • Mohamed Merah is a 23 year-old French citizen of Algerian origin, born in October 1988
  • Earlier reports suggested Merah was arrested by Afghan police in December 2007 in Kandahar and sentenced to three years followed by a massive Taliban prison break in 2008.  These reports are now DENIED by Kandahar news agencies. No French national named Mohamed Merah has been detained in Kandahar, Afghan news agencies are now reporting.
  • Meanwhile it is confirmed by French authorities that Merah has in fact traveled to the Af-Pak region at least twice. In November 2010 Merah was allegedly checked by security forces in the South Afghan city of Kandahar but was not arrested.
  • According to French security officials Mohamed Merah also traveled to Afghanistan in 2011 but had to return because of Hepatitis A infection. Prior to this trip Merah traveled to Pakistan on a tourist visa in August 2011 and made his way to the Pakistani tribal region of Waziristan.
  • Merah´s mother raised five children – three son and two daughters – as a single mother.
  • Mohamed´s 29 year-old brother Abdelkader was under surveillance for days as French intelligence identified several Islamists in the Toulouse area as possible suspects in the case of the soldiers´killings in Montabaun.
  • Abdelkader Merah according to French prosecution had fought in Iraq as a Jihadi militants and then returned to France. French intelligence monitored him as a potential terrorist. During today´s police operation explosives were found inside Abdelkader Merah´s car.

One year ago Mohamed Merah, a 24 23 year-old French citizen of Algerian origin locked up in an Afghan prison cell in the city of Kandahar. He had been arrested in November 2010 December 2007 as part of an Al-Qaida-Taliban cell which was planting bombs in the city. Merah among others was sentenced to three years in prison for his terrorist activities.

In April 2011  June 2008 dozens of Taliban insurgents attacked Sarposa Prison, the main prison in Kandahar. They managed to free more than 1,200 inmates in this assault. Amongst those prisoners freed that night was Mohamed Merah.

Allegedly the 24 year-old from Toulouse re-joined Al-Qaida after he was freed from prison and received further terrorist training.

When Merah returned to France he was -according to French media reports – under the surveillance of French intelligence agency DCRI. Merah joined the Salafist group „Frosane Alizza“ operating in France and was known as a Jihadi sympathizer.

Meanwhile it is confirmed Mohamed Merah is the man who shot Jewish students and French soldiers in Toulouse and Montabaun. French police was able to track down the IP adress of the computer of Merah´s brother. The killer had used the computer to contact his first victim, a French soldier of North African descent, and pretended to be interested in buying a motorbike the soldier was selling.

Unconfirmed information is now spreading Merah tried to join the French Foreign League in 2010 but was not accepted. Allegedly he was a bodybuilder, too. Merah´s brother Abdelkader (26) is allegedly also part of the Salafist community in Toulouse.

Mohamed Merah has serve two prison terms in France in 2007 and 2009. About 18 acts of violence and crime have recorded in relation with Merah, the last one being „driving without license“ only a few weeks ago according to his lawyer.

Hamburg´s Jihadi Legacy – German Town Invaded by Islamists

by Florian Flade

After Hamburg´s notorious 9-11 Mosque  „Masjid Taiba“ was closed last year, radical Salafis are searching for a place to meet and worship. In a small North German community they found a new homeone of them a 18 year-old convert who threatens local Jewish Community officials.

„Islamic Hacker“ – Convert Harry M. threatened Jewish Community Leader

In the morning hours of August 9 2010 German police raided Hamburg´s most notorious mosque „Masjid Taiba“. Hamburg´s interior ministry had ordered the closure of the building situated in the St.Georg neighborhood near the main train station. Nine years ago, on September 11th 2001 a group of regular visitors of the mosque committed the worst terrorist attack in modern history. Mohammed Atta, Ziad Jarrah and the others of the so-called „Hamburg Cell“ had worshipped, prayed and met in the rooms of then called „Al Quds Mosque“. The mosque had become the centre of radical Islam in Germany. Ultra-religious Islamists of various nationalities and ethnic backgrounds formed a Salafi community that was under the watchful eye of Hamburg´s counter-terrorism officials.

Rumors said „Masjid Taiba“ was filled with wiretapping tools and electronic devices to record all sermons and private conversation. The Jihadi mosque where worshippers praised the 9/11 hijackers and German militants fighting in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq as „holy warriors“, had been infiltrated by Hamburg´s intelligence agency but nevertheless remained the ideological heartland for Islamic fanatics sharing the same ideas and wish about dying a martyr´s death in the Jihad against the unbelievers.

Even with police, intelligence and politicians keeping a close eye on the famous „Mosque of Mohammed Atta“, a group of young men and women from the mosque community was able to leave Germany in Spring 2009, travel to Pakistani Waziristan and join terrorist groups.
Last year Hamburg´s politicians decided to put an end to the Jihadi temple in St.Georg. But while to most observers the closure of the radical mosque seemed as a good and long-awaited measure to fight religious extremism, counter-terrorism authorities were shocked and rather disappointed by the decision to close „Masjid Taiba“.

Since 9/11 Hamburg´s fanatics could be monitored rather easily because they met and prayed in one place – the now closed mosque. Where would these Islamists re-group now? Police had dried the lake intelligence agents were fishing in for years. Who could have wished for dozens of radical Islamists freely roaming the streets of Hamburg, meeting in private apartments or secret basements that could not be monitored and wiretapped?

Nearly half a year after „Masjid Taiba“ was closed it seems Hamburg´s radical Salafis have found a new home – in peaceful provincial Pinneberg. About 18km northwest of Hamburg City, a small backyard mosque, described by German Verfassungschutz as „a problem“,  has turned into the new meeting and worshipping place for the former visitors of „Masjid Taiba“. For weeks long-bearded men, young converts and fulling-veiled women are coming to Pinneberg and meet in the „As-Sunnah Mosque“ belonging to the „Muslimische Vereinigung Pinneberg e.V“.

One of those mosque visitors is a Rap-Musician formerly known as „Deso Dogg“. The 35 year-old Denis Cuspert of Ghanian origin was born in Berlin and started a successful career as a street gansta rapper, singing about crime, drugs, women and life in the poor Berlin suburbs. In November 2010 „Deso Dogg“ announced he would leave the Music business and instead focus on his new faith – Islam. He converted after getting involvement with Germany´s biggest Salafi Dawah organization „Die Wahre Religion“, led by White convert Pierre Vogel („Abu Hamza“). Rapper „Deso Dogg“ is now preacher „Abou Maleeq“.

During a Islam seminar some weeks ago „Abou Maleeq“ sang a German rap song that caused controversy because it included the lyrics „Allah willing, we fight, die as martyrs, eye on the enemy, in the Name of Allah“. In Pinneberg´s As-Sunnah Mosque, the former Berlin rapper wanted to sing the very same song. Residents and local politicians heard of the upcoming visit and protested against it. Jihad was not welcomed in Pinneberg.

In the end „Abou Maleeq“ did not rap about martyrdom and jihad but talked about how he came to Islam. The community leaders seemed satisfied. Still, the mosque´s new visitors were seen as increasing problem. Fanaticism slowly but surely streamed into Pinneberg.

Last week a picture emerged on a German Jihadi website. „Dirty Jew“ the text read. On the picture there was a man crossed out with red paint. „Be careful so Allah is not punishing you in this life with death“, the text said, „Allah´s punishment can reach you anywhere!“ The threat is even more concerning as the identity of the man seen on the website is widely known in Pinneberg – it is Wolfgang Seibert, head of Pinneberg´s Jewish Community.

Seibert had called upon local authorities to close „As-Sunnah Mosque“ before it could turn into a new „Masjid Taiba“ on the outskirts of Hamburg. After the death threats appeared on the Internet, Seibert is scared. „I was scared for my family“, he said, „But I will not back down.“
With his demand for a mosque-closure he had upset the 18 year-old Salafi convert Harry M.. M. is the administrator of the now-closed German website „Islamic Hacker Union“. He is the one who posted the threats against Wolfgang Seibert. „Those dirty kuffar, may Allah destroy them!“, M. wrote on the Internet after Seibert called for the closing of Pinneberg´s radical mosque.

Harry M. had visited „As-Sunnah Mosque“ several times in the past. Known as „Isa al-K.“ he spread the message of radical Islam on Internet forums and social networks as well as on his own website „Islamic Hacker Union“. In a Youtube Video that was deleted a few days ago, Harry M. tells about his former life as a Non-Muslim, a teenage life full of alcohol and drugs. A report highlights M. was one of the first residents of Hamburg to complete a advance training program for IT Software experts. But that was before M. came into contact with radical preachers and the Salafi missionary movement in Germany. Since then the Hamburg teenager and IT-expert is caught in a world of Jihad and religious fanaticism.

Yesterday evening police raided M.´s apartment, searching for terrorism-related material and confiscating his computers. M.´s website „Islamic Hacker Union“ where the threats against Jewish Community leaders were posted, was closed and is now offline. The Jihadi hacker was questioned by the police but not arrested.

Meanwhile the landlord of the building housing the „As-Sunnah Mosque“ in Pinneberg said he had been fouled and tricked by the mosque management. He has terminated the contract of the mosque chairman. On June 30 2011 the Salafi community will have to re-settle elsewhere. Monitoring several dozen potential Jihadis and individuals supporting violence against Christians and Jews will now become an even more difficult task.

Al-Qaeda´s Greetings to Dead Crusaders

by Florian Flade

When British and Dubai security officials finally found what they were looking for after a hours-long search for two bombs hidden in packages sent via U.S. postal companies UPS and FedEx on October 28th, they were surprised to see who was listed as the addressor of the parcels.

Al-Qaeda addressed the UPS package, which was found on board a cargo plane that had just landed on East Midland Airport in Britain, to a Chicago resident named „Diego Deza“. The second mail bomb sent via FedEx from Sanaa to Chicago, was intercepted in Dubai. This time, it was addressed to „Reynaldkrak“.

Diego de Deza and Raynald Krak are not actual residents of Chicago but historical figures associated with Christian brutality against Muslims.

Deza was a Spanish Church official and Theologian, born 1444 in León. He was Archbishop of Sevilla in 1504 prior to succeeding Thomas de Torquemada as Grand Inquisitor of Andalus (Spain) in 1498. Under Deza´s rule, data says 1664 people were burned to death alive and about 32,500 other people were sentenced to torture and other forms of punishment. Most of his victims were reported to be Muslims and Jews living in Andalusia back then. Diego Deza, who sentenced accused „Secret Muslims“ to torture until they confessed being followers of Islam, died in 1523 in Sevilla.

Reynald Krak is a variant of the name Raynald of Chatillon, a Crusader Knight who took part in the Second Crusade and become famous because of his attacks on Muslim caravans. He was married first to the Princess of Antioch before being captured by the Muslim army in 1159 and imprisoned in Aleppo for 17 years. In 1176, after he was released from Muslim captivity, Raynald married Stephanie, the heiress of Kerak (or Krak, in today´s Jordan) and Mont Royal.
In 1182 as a new war broke out between the Latin empire and Muslim leader Salahuddin, Raynald, who was known as „Arnat“ by the Muslims, launched ships on the Red Sea, planning to attack Mecca and take the fight to the Arabian Peninsula.

In the very same year, Raynald was attacked by Salahuddin in an assault on his castle in Krak during the marriage of Raynald´s stepson Humphrey. The Crusaders defended the fortress and Salahuddin retreated. A truce was announced between King Guy of Jerusalem and the Muslim leaders, which was not respected by Raynald of Krak who tried to attack a caravan on its way from Cairo to Damascus in which Salahuddin´s sister was said to travel in.

Crusader Knight Raynald beheaded by Salahuddin

Salahuddin swore the disrespectful Crusader Warlord Raynald would die once he would fall into Muslim hands again. Indeed, in 1187, at the Battle of Hattin, Raynald as well as King Guy and other Crusader leaders were captured by the Muslims. It is said, Salahuddin ordered Raynald to come into his tent and offered him life if he becomes Muslim. The Knight refused and was then beheaded by Salahuddin himself or one of his guards.

As usual al-Qaeda did not miss the symbolism point when it sent the explosive-filled packages from Yemen to the United States. Jewish Synagogues in Obama-Town Chicago were the final destinations of the two potentially deadly packages while the names of historical Anti-Muslim „boogeymen“ were carefully chosen.

„Oh enemies of Allah, await the good news of what will harm you“ – al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula wrote in the claim of responsibility for the parcel bombs, released yesterday on the internet forums. The packages, al-Qaeda states, were „headed to the Jewish Zionist Temples“.

Symbolism is very important to the organization since it started global attacks on American targets and American interests. The attempted parcel bombings are just the latest examples of this Jihadi symbolism.
